BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Background

An informal group comprised of the top HR professionals in various industries was pulled together by Al O’Connor, O’Connor HR CareerCoaching. These individuals met infrequently to discuss HR related topics of interest and the group was very small and unstructured. As interest grew, decisions were made to affiliate with SHRM formally, to begin meeting every two months, to formalize the structure of the organization and to contract with an administrator. SHREC is one in only a handful of Chapters in the nation that is specialized and is geared only to top HR Executives.

Purpose

The purpose of SHREC is the professional development of HR executives in Arizona and to provide policy and issues guidance and mentoring to the Arizona HR community. The organization provides a forum for peer members to share their knowledge and best practices through presentations, roundtable discussions and E-mail forums focused on strategic issues, policy development, legislative issues and major workforce trends.

Eligibility

Membership shall be by invitation and shall be limited to those Arizona based individuals who are (a) the top policy making HR executive of a corporation, major division or subsidiary, non-profit or major government entity who is responsible for the majority of HR functions and participates on the senior management team in running the organization, (b) the top executive of a HR related association, (c) full professors in HR management or any of its specialized functions from an accredited college or university, (d) full time HR consultants who have held the position as defined in (a) at some point in their career. Each SHREC member shall also be a national SHRM member.

Size/Other Requirements

The organization is planning to keep membership limited to approximately 40 members. Members will typically be employed by organizations with 1000 or more employees and have multi-state/multi-location responsibilities and represent a cross-section of industries. Those HR professionals that have had large company experience but are now in a more strategic role of developing and growing a new business will also be considered. Memberships are individual and shall not be transferred to other individuals. Consultant membership will be limited to 5% of total.

Meeting Schedule/Dues

Regular meetings will be held on a bi-monthly basis usually on a Tuesday morning. Networking evening functions may also be scheduled and/or a half-day workshop. Dues shall be $300 per year.
